Report: Liverpool eyeing 'exceptional' WC midfielder likened to Bernardo Silva, £12.5m price tag
Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat.
According to Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, the Reds are in the race for the Morocco international alongside Tottenham Hotspur.
Amrabat’s fine displays for the Serie A side this season, and at the 2022 World Cup, have apparently drawn attention from top clubs across Europe.
Corriere’s title states that ‘everyone wants Amrabat’, and within the report, Liverpool and Tottenham are tagged.
The report also questions what the 26-year-old would do if the likes of the Anfield outfit came calling.
Amrabat is apparently on €1.8million a year at Fiorentina (around £30,000-a-week).
And what the midfielder could receive elsewhere is ‘mind-boggling’ compared to his current salary.
In addition, a move to Liverpool would enable Amrabat to play in the Champions League, which Fiorentina cannot offer this season.
The player’s contract runs until 2024, though his club has a one-year option.
Solid, budget Liverpool midfield option?
Liverpool could do with bolstering their midfield ranks next year, and Amrabat isn’t a bad shout for Jurgen Klopp.
He is a high-calibre player who has impressed at the highest level and, at 26, is in his peak years.
On Twitter, fans have compared Amrabat to the likes of Bernardo Silva and Mikel Jon Obi.
He would bring a tenacity and quality to the game which the Liverpool fans would surely appreciate.
In addition, Amrabat – who has been praised for his ‘exceptional technique on the ball’ – shouldn’t break the bank.
Reports linking him to Tottenham earlier this year suggested a fee of around £12.5million.
