Speaking to Liverpool’s official website about Elliott, Carvalho said: “Even when the decision went his way for the goal, I was celebrating it like it was my goal!

“I’m just so happy for him because he had an outstanding game.

“This time I didn’t get a goal but it’s equally as good for him to get the goal.”

Carvalho and Elliott are two of Liverpool’s most exciting prospects.

The pair have had to step up in Jurgen Klopp’s side this season given the number of injuries Liverpool have suffered in midfield.

Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago Alcantara have all had been unavailable at times this season.

Elliott’s performance last night attracted the attention of Liverpool target Jude Bellingham.

Ian Wright had concerns that there wouldn’t be space for Elliott in Klopp’s team if he stuck with a two-man midfield.

However, if Elliott and Carvalho keep putting in impressive performances, Klopp will have some difficult decisions to make.

Until then, the England under-21 international can enjoy his maiden Champions League strike.
