Jude Bellingham was amongst those to applaud Harvey Elliott on Instagram after the Liverpool youngster scored his first ever Champions League goal on Wednesday in the Reds’ 7-1 win.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have more than one foot in the knockout stages of the competition following a superb second-half showing against Rangers at Ibrox.

The Gers had actually taken the lead through Scott Arfield. But Liverpool were not behind for long, with Roberto Firmino equalising midway through the first-half.

Firmino then put Liverpool in front. And Darwin Nunez probably ended the Gers’ hopes of a comeback shortly after the hour mark.

From there, Liverpool were irresistible. Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick in little over six minutes. And the icing on the cake came from Elliott, who added Liverpool’s seventh just before the end.

Elliott was not able to celebrate as he would like to. The offside flag went up as soon as he put the ball into the net. And it was only after a lengthy VAR check that the goal was given.

But it was clear what the moment meant to the 19-year-old.

Elliott has since taken to Instagram to comment on the moment. And amongst those to laud him was reported Liverpool target Jude Bellingham…

Liverpool will hope that Wednesday’s win will ignite their season. Obviously, it is not their biggest victory of the campaign. But last night’s game felt significant.

Perhaps the Reds feel that they have less pressure on them. But it was abundantly clear what could happen when Liverpool do get it right.

Their Champions League knockout stage spot is all but assured. And they will hope that they can now kick on in the top-flight.
