Liverpool spent approximately £450 million bolstering the title-winning squad this summer, but the club missed out on the most important signing.
The Reds headed into the international break with three consecutive defeats across all competitions, which included two 95th-minute match winners for Crystal Palace and Chelsea, respectively.
Arne Slot has huge problems at Liverpool that must be addressed ahead of the pivotal clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
Almost all of the Reds’ new stars are yet to settle into life at Anfield, but Hugo Ekitike continued his form for France and is the only summer arrival who can be considered a resounding success thus far.

Now, ex-Premier League manager Sam Allardyce has claimed that the champions missed out on the one player who could have been a bigger arrival than British record signing Alexander Isak.
Marc Guehi would have been an important signing for Liverpool
When discussing Liverpool on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce revealed that despite the club’s record transfer spend, they will regret not signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
“I mean, so I think that, I think what’s concerning about Liverpool is how much money’s been spent on the team.
And it appears that the biggest player of all hasn’t been got, that’s Guehi from Crystal Palace.
They are defensively looking a little suspect. And you know what I’m like defensively.”
Guehi would have been a transformational signing for the Reds had Palace not pulled the plug on the £35m deal during the final hours of deadline day.
The 25-year-old has not let the disappointment of the collapsed transfer affect his performances, as Guehi has become an important player for England in addition to his impressive displays at Selhurst Park.
He assisted Eddie Nketiah’s winning goal against the Reds in the 2-1 loss in South London and has helped his side keep six clean sheets in 11 outings this season across all competitions.
Ibrahima Konate returned from international duty after a suspected quad injury caused problems with France. Although Liverpool are hopeful the Frenchman will be fine to face United, his absence could leave the side with only two senior centre-back options.
Slot tasked Ryan Gravenberch with deputising in the backline at Stamford Bridge, but with the injury-prone Joe Gomez next in the pecking order at Anfield, their depth at centre-back is becoming a serious cause for concern.
Liverpool will face fierce competition to sign Marc Guehi
The Reds are expected to reignite their interest in Guehi when his contract expires at the end of the season.
However, TBR Football understands Liverpool will have no advantage for Guehi when the player comes to deciding his future.
While Liverpool have been reported to be tabling a new bid for the defender when the winter transfer window opens, this is believed to no longer be the case due to Palace’s demands.

And despite the groundwork laid for Guehi in the summer, the player will provide an even playing field for all interested clubs to table their proposals, which leaves Liverpool in a position to lose out on the defender for a second time.
Nevertheless, Richard Hughes will feel confident that he can convince the player that his long-term future lies at Anfield. However, the Reds might be better off trying to strike a deal with Palace in January, despite the financial complications.
