Jamie Carragher has continued his constant criticism of Liverpool this season following the 1-0 loss against Galatasaray.
The Reds legend has been vocal about his concerns regarding his former club throughout the beginning of the season – Carragher slammed Liverpool’s defending after the Community Shield loss.
His concerns have been proven correct thus far. Victor Osimhen’s 16th-minute match-winner in the Champions League marked the 13th goal the English champions have conceded since their Wembley loss.
Liverpool have looked unconvincing since the first kick of the 2025/26 campaign, but the results have somewhat papered over the cracks.

Now, Carragher has issued his condemning verdict of the Reds following Tuesday’s defeat, echoing the sentiments of former boss Jurgen Klopp.
Arne Slot has become too attacking-minded at Liverpool
When speaking live on CBS Sports, Carragher believes Liverpool’s summer signings have become a serious cause of concern and the main reason behind the side’s defensive vulnerability.
“I don’t feel like I’m watching a top team. Liverpool aren’t playing football at the moment, they’re playing basketball, and it’s just end to end. And I don’t think top teams play like that. And as I said, I expressed that to the manager early on. He’ll know that a lot better than me. He’s obviously a fantastic manager.
“Uh, but right now, Liverpool went from a, I would call them a top team, but a workmanlike team, I would say, last season, and they’ve sprinkled a little bit of stardust on it in terms of the transfers that he brought in, and they haven’t gained anything going forward, but they’ve lost a lot defensively.”
Klopp believes Slot has been too attacking-minded this season, and while the German was full of praise for his successor, he admitted the new tactics on display at Anfield leave the Reds far too exposed defensively.
Liverpool have two new starting full-backs, but neither have looked particularly convincing in the early stages of their tenures on Merseyside.
Jeremie Frimpong has looked uncomfortable on the right flank, whereas Milos Kerkez has failed to replicate the displays that earned him a spot in the PFA Team of the Season at Bournemouth, and his botched clearance at Selhurst Park indirectly led to Palace’s stoppage-time winner.
Furthermore, Ibrahima Konate’s “terrible” performances have become a main talking point in recent weeks – the Frenchman was bullied by Jean-Philippe Mateta last time out in the Premier League and looked no better in Istanbul.
Aside from captain Virgil van Dijk, there are serious question marks surrounding the rest of the senior defenders, leaving fans to debate which of their underperforming stars still deserve their place in the starting lineup.
Arne Slot should drop Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez
Slot has been clear on his expectations of the players throughout his spell at Anfield, and now it is time for the boss to put his money where his mouth is.
Neither Frimpong nor Kerkez have done anything of note to warrant their continued place in the starting line-up and should both be named on the bench when the Reds travel to Stamford Bridge.
While Liverpool supporters are optimistic that the pair will enjoy success at the club, they currently leave the side far too defensively fragile and offer little offensively to counteract this.
The same argument can be made for all of the Reds’ summer signings, excluding Hugo Ekitike. Slot must return to the side that won the Premier League title last season and give his new stars some much-needed respite until they can prove their worth.
