Fabrizio Romano and Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko had a chat on Twitch yesterday about Ruslan Malinovskyi and why Tottenham Hotspur did not sign him this summer.
Spurs were heavily linked with the Atalanta midfielder. A deal even looked likely at one point, with reports claiming that the 29-year-old dreams of a transfer for Tottenham. Sadly for him, the North Londoners could not get it done.
Romano tells Zinchenko why Tottenham did not sign Malinovskyi
During their conversation last night, Zinchenko asked Romano: “What about Malinovskyi?”
The journalist revealed that the Ukrainian midfielder wanted to join Tottenham this summer, but Atalanta’s huge demands meant that Spurs couldn’t get a deal done for him before last night’s deadline.
Responding to Zinchenko’s question, Romano said: “You know that Ruslan wanted to leave. The reality is that Ruslan wanted to leave and wanted to go to Tottenham.
“His dream was to try Premier League experience like you (Zinchenko) but the only way for Tottenham move was a loan. Because Tottenham can only do loan move.
“They offered a loan with buy option few days ago, but only a verbal proposal, because they knew with Atalanta it was impossible. Atalanta president is in love with Ruslan, he said £40 million or nothing.
“Nobody offered £40 million, so he’s staying. He really had this dream of Premier League and Tottenham.”

TBR View:
Tottenham couldn’t sign anyone on deadline day, but they should be happy with their transfer business this summer. However, a new midfielder would’ve really given them a huge boost.
Malinovskyi is a really good player. Branded as ‘extraordinary‘, the Ukraine international scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions for Atalanta last season.
Spurs don’t have an attacking midfielder who can directly contribute to 17 goals, which is why a move for Malinovskyi made a lot of sense.
Sadly for both the player and Spurs, a move did not materialise.
