Newcastle United are working hard to try and sign Manchester United midfielder, Jesse Lingard, with the club hoping to land the England man on a deal until the end of the season.
Lingard has been one of the names mentioned throughout January as a potential signing for both Newcastle and Tottenham. After a seriously impressive loan spell with West Ham last term, Lingard was expected to play a more prominent role at Old Trafford this year. But things haven’t panned out, and he’s now running down his contract to become a free-agent this summer.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are hoping they can be the club to tempt Lingard into a move away from United this January. The respected journalist has taken to Twitter to suggest Newcastle are working away right now to get a deal for Lingard done.
Newcastle have flown out to Saudi Arabia this week for a warm weather training camp. However, work remains ongoing in the background with regards to new signings.
PIF have backed Eddie Howe so far but he wants more. A number of big names have been mentioned but as yet, only Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier have got over the line.
TBR’s View: Lingard Could Save Newcastle
If he can have the same impact he did at West Ham, then Jesse Lingard will be the signing of the window for Newcastle.
He really does have a bit of everything and when playing well, consistently, and in the right position, he’s a real threat. Indeed, Bruno Fernandes even branded his United teammate ‘top level’.
It might be Newcastle simply have to bite the bullet and lock in an expensive loan deal. Hopefully, Lingard then keeps them, enjoys his time in the northeast, and signs for nothing in the summer. But even if he doesn’t join permanently, he still increases the club’s chances of survival. And that, really, is what it’s all about right now.
