Tottenham Hotspur manager, Antonio Conte, is leading the club’s pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard, with the Italian having expressed to the club his admiration for the England man.
Lingard’s future is the subject of hot speculation as the transfer window enters its final week or so. Currently out of the picture at Manchester United, Lingard is being linked with a move to Newcastle. However, reports have suggested he would prefer a move to Tottenham, if the Londoners were keen.
And according to the Sun, Tottenham could yet make their play for Lingard. They claim that it is Antonio Conte himself who has expressed interest in the Man United man. The Italian manager is said to have put Lingard’s name to Fabio Paratici, and it is now down to the Spurs board to make things happen.

Lingard is not the only player Newcastle are linked with that Spurs want. The Sun has also claimed that Diego Carlos is the subject of Spurs interest now too. The Brazilian, of course, has been tracked all month by Newcastle.
Lingard enjoyed a superb spell with West Ham last season. For that form, Rio Ferdinand labelled him ‘amazing’, claiming he could play for any top team in the country.
TBR’s View: Conte Making His Presence Known At Tottenham
With each passing week you feel Conte is putting his own stamp on things at Tottenham, and if he’s now picking transfer targets, you’d suggest the club fully trusts him.
Of course, Paratici is the man who needs to get deals done. But Conte is now actively involved in player selection, it seems anyway. On the surface, Lingard would be a fine signing. He brings goals, assists, PL experience, and a drive from midfield areas.
For Newcastle, they must wonder what is going on. If Spurs beat them to both Lingard and Carlos, then it won’t half sting for PIF and Eddie Howe.
