Rodri says Manchester United have one of the hardest working players he’s ever seen on their books right now

There’s not much to shout about at Manchester United right now.

Indeed, Ruben Amorim is under serious pressure after a 3-0 loss in the Manchester derby last weekend, while things don’t get any easier this weekend as the Red Devils prepare to face Chelsea.

United finished 15th in the league last season, and they don’t appear to have improved.

That said, this is still a squad packed full of talent.

Kobbie Mainoo is a top player, Bruno Fernandes is a superstar, while Matheus Cunha has looked bright too.

Meanwhile, despite being past his best, Casemiro is a legend of the game.

Speaking to ESPN, Manchester City midfielder, Rodri, has reserved some special praise for the Brazilian.

Rodri hails Casemiro’s workrate

Rodri was taking part in a challenge with ESPN where he had to build his so-called perfect midfielder made up of a number of attributes.

Inevitably, the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Andres Iniesta got mentions in certain categories.

Interestingly though, when it came to workrate, Rodri picked Casemiro.

Casemiro may be a tad slower and a tad less energetic than he used to be, but when he was at his best, he could be a one-man midfield at times with his ability to not only cover ground effectively, but read the game and distribute well too.

Rio Ferdinand prefers Casemiro to Rodri

Inevitably, Casemiro and Rodri are often compared as players.

Indeed, two holding midfielders who arrived in Manchester via Madrid are bound to be compared.

Interestingly, Rio Ferdinand has previously compared these two players, and, at one point, he said he’d take Casemiro over Rodri.

“I would take Casemiro, because I think the impact he has had is huge,” former United defender Ferdinand said on TNT Sports. “He’s more than a footballer, he’s a leader on that pitch.

“With the experience he’s got and what he’s won as well, it just elevates him above at this stage. But Rodri is a fantastic footballer.”

Of course, since then, Rodri has become a Ballon d’Or winner, while Casemiro has been criticised heavily for his performance dip in recent times.

Rodri is certainly the better player these days, but it mustn’t be forgotten just how brilliant Casemiro was in his prime.
