Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson reached the final of the UEFA Conference League with Feyenoord last night after beating Marseille 3-2 on aggregate.

A lot of the job got done in the first leg, with Feyenoord winning at home before seeing out a goalless draw in France.

Arsenal will not scoop a trophy this season but Nelson has a chance to get his hands on some silverware and he is just 90 minutes away from it.

After the game, he took to Instagram to celebrate on a hugely important night for him in his career so far.

Reiss Nelson reached the Conference League final

Nelson will be trying to get past a Roma side managed by former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, who guided his team into the final by beating Leicester.

Mourinho was in tears after winning last night’s semi-final, and so was Nelson, who was overcome by emotion at the final whistle.

There were plenty of famous faces wanting to wish Nelson well in his Instagram comments after reaching the final.

Robin van Persie of course has Feyenoord and Arsenal connections, so his joy was no surprise, and there were also messages from Nelson’s fellow Englishmen Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, among others.

Arsenal have been very impressed by Nelson’s displays since the turn of the year and Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the 22-year-old.

It remains to be seen whether he has a longer term Arsenal future. He did sign a short contract extension last summer, but it has been reported that he is ‘likely’ to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.

Whether his performances of late have changed anything at Arsenal remains to be seen but for now his focus will be on European glory for his loan club.
