Despite only being 13 minutes into his Arsenal career, Viktor Gyokeres is already the talk of the town in north London.

In fact, Viktor Gyokeres has probably been the most talked about name in the whole of the Premier League this summer.

Arsenal ultimately won the race to sign the Swede, but Manchester United wanted Gyokeres too — Ruben Amorim was keen for Sporting CP reunion at Old Trafford.

However, Arsenal were the side that ultimately paid Sporting’s demands, and Gyokeres will now get the chance to inspire a title-winning campaign at the Emirates.

TBR Football have recently revealed that Arsenal’s coaches have already been impressed by Gyokeres in training, and he looks set for a lot of success under Mikel Arteta.

Rio Ferdinand clarifies his Viktor Gyokeres doubts

That being said, Rio Ferdinand previously shared his reservations about Gyokeres coming to the Premier League.

However, when speaking on his podcast now, Rio Ferdinand has made an effort to clarify those comments — instead explaining why Gyokeres is the right signing for Arsenal.

Setting things straight, Ferdinand said: “Listen, one thing there’s no dispute on, this guy has dominated Portuguese football for two years.

“Led defenders all over the place and smashed them all over the gaff, you can’t argue.

“And some people, obviously, on this show he was massively linked to Manchester United because of the Amorim connection, and I was one who was saying, and I don’t want it to be distorted, the reason why I was saying no for United, because I didn’t think he was the right profile for United, massively in terms of experience at the top level.

“You look at the two signings Manchester United have made, Premier League experience, they understand the league.

“Whatever level you think they are, they are not going to have that adaptation to the Premier League and to the culture.

“Where he (Gyokeres) will have to have that — we don’t know if he can play in the Premier League, he ain’t done it, he played for Coventry.”

Viktor Gyokeres can offer Arsenal something Kai Havertz can’t

In addition to those comments, Ferdinand then explained why Arsenal’s move to sign Gyokeres from Sporting is the right call.

He continued: “Let’s fast forward to now, Gyokeres signing for Arsenal absolutely makes sense.

“You’re in a different position, you haven’t got young strikers sitting there waiting to know what to do.

“Havertz is your number nine, Jesus is your number nine, they are experienced, you just need someone who you think can go in and score goals.”

Of course, when you consider Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus’ records for Arsenal, it is clear that a focused goalscorer is needed, even if the duo both have their obvious strengths.

Noni Madueke could be an understated signing for Arsenal in terms of how he’s able to deliver balls into the box from left on his left foot.

And someone like Gyokeres will be better placed to finish those crosses, a striker with a natural instinct to score goals.
