Rio Ferdinand has given his verdict on Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

The former Manchester United defender has admitted that he was wrong about Gordon.

So, what has Rio Ferdinand said about Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, Rio Ferdinand has been raving about Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon on his YouTube channel.

The former Manchester United defender has admitted that he did not think that Gordon would be as good at Newcastle as he has been so far.

The TNT Sports pundit has been hugely impressed by how the English winger is doing at Newcastle at the moment.

Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 for £45 million (Sky Sports). The winger did not have a particularly great time at the Magpies during the second half of last season, but he has now exploded.

The winger has made 11 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Newcastle this season, Gordon has scored five goals and given three assists in those games.

Ferdinand said about Gordon on his YouTube channel: “He is actually making me eat my words. I have not said it publicly, but I have spoken to Joleon Lescott quite a bit because he has done quite a few games at Newcastle.

“I was going £50 million, £50 million. I hadn’t seen it yet at Everton. I am seeing it now at Newcastle. I have to say his performances, without the ball, his performances, his intensity, his aggression, his determination, his desire and now he is adding goals, he is creating chances, he is adding assists, he has been a problem for the full-backs in recent weeks, he is growing at Newcastle.”

Anthony Gordon is a Newcastle United gem

In my opinion, Anthony Gordon is one of the best young English wingers around and Newcastle United are a better team with him in it. Fans love him.

Gordon was not particularly ‘great’ during his time at Everton. Yes, the winger showed potential, but, like Rio Ferdinand, many would have been surprised that Newcastle paid £45 million in transfer fees.

The English winger is only 22 now. There is still room for improvement. I believe that he could develop into one of the best wingers in the Premier League.
