Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer praised Anthony Gordon following his superb display in the Magpies’ 4-1 Premier League win over Chelsea.
The 22-year-old Newcastle winger was bright throughout and made several key contributions as Eddie Howe’s charges ran riot at St James’ Park.
Gordon delivered a superb ball for Jamaal Lascelles to put Newcastle back ahead in the second half.
He also saw Reece James sent off after winning the ball off the Chelsea skipper, and rounded off his display with the fourth goal.
Gordon latched onto Miguel Almiron’s ball over the top and ran through on goal before beating Robert Sanchez with a low finish into the far corner.

After the game, Shearer said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Chelsea were terrible in the second half. I think Newcastle made them play terrible by the way they pressed.
“Gordon seems to be really enjoying his time in Newcastle and thought he was really great and caused James loads of problems.
“James got frustrated and that’s what led to him being sent off.”
Anthony Gordon living up to his potential at Newcastle United
Gordon joined the Magpies from Premier League rivals Everton at the start of the year for a reported £45million fee.
Howe likes to give his new Newcastle recruits time to get used to their new surroundings, and that was the case with Gordon too.
The January signing made 16 appearances for the St James’ Park outfit last season, 12 of which were off the bench.
Howe’s stance with Gordon – and with all new signings – proved a masterstroke, as the former Everton man has been superb this season.
It’s so good seeing Gordon living up to his potential and emerging as one of the Premier League’s best young stars.
