A report from The Times has shared what Djed Spence told his friends once Tottenham Hotspur joined the race to sign him – with a £12 million deal edging closer.

Spurs look set to make Spence their sixth signing of the summer. Reports on Thursday claimed that there had been a breakthrough in talks with Middlesbrough and a deal was on the cards.

The Times is now claiming that Spence could complete his move on Friday. Tottenham meanwhile, have produced something of a coup, with the fee set to be around £12 million.

The news will delight Antonio Conte, who wanted Spence as he looked to bolster his ranks on the right of the defence.

And it seems that Spence has got the move that he has wanted for some time. The Times reports that he informed friends that he would only join Tottenham once he learned that they wished to sign him.

£12m deal for Djed Spence could be inspired from Tottenham

Spence is unproven in the Premier League. But he has shown what he can do against Premier League opposition, impressing against Arsenal, Leicester and Liverpool in the FA Cup last season.

He has been described as an ‘unbelievable‘ talent. And he went on to help Nottingham Forest secure promotion in the play-offs.

He is only 21 years of age. So the potential could be huge. And with that, landing Spence for an initial £12 million could prove to be an absolute masterstroke from Tottenham.

There is little risk for a club with Spurs’ resources. And Spence is not under huge pressure to hit the ground running – well, not because of the fee anyway.

It is a fantastic bit of news for Tottenham fans.

And clearly, it is the move that Spence has been waiting for for a little while.
