Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is under a lot of pressure to keep his job right now.

Birmingham Live journalist Ashley Preece has reported what he’s heard about Mauricio Pochettino’s proposed move to Aston Villa.

The Villains haven’t enjoyed the start to the season some fans would have been hoping for.

Despite making signings in key areas, Gerrard’s side haven’t kicked on this year and find themselves a point above the relegation zone.

The loss of defender Diego Carlos to injury has been a big blow.

However, Gerrard has really struggled to get the best out of his attacking talent.

No player has scored more than once this season, and Philippe Coutinho’s move from Barcelona hasn’t worked out.

There has been plenty of talk this week about a potential return to the Premier League for Mauricio Pochettino.

Journalist Dean Jones has reported that Pochettino is potentially interested in a move to Villa Park.

However, Ashley Preece has reported that Villa sources believe talk about Pochettino going to Villa is purely speculation.

Pochettino move to Villa is speculation – Villa sources

The report from Birmingham Live has quashed suggestions that the former Spurs boss could be heading to the West Midlands.

Pochettino has been out of a job since the summer, after being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain.

It was originally The Telegraph that reported Villa wanted to hire Pochettino.

However, the Argentinian would be more interested in a return to Tottenham.

This now looks more unlikely with reports suggesting Antonio Conte has been offered a new contract.

Pochettino did a fantastic job building up Tottenham from a side hoping to qualify for the Champions League to reaching the final of the same competition.

He was eventually sacked after four-and-a-half years in charge after a disappointing start to the season.

His tenure was one of the longest in the Premier League at the time.

The platform Pochettino built at Spurs is still being added to today.

Although sources say a move for Pochettino to go to Villa is just speculation at this point, it may not be a bad decision.

If Pochettino could build up Villa up in the same manner he did Spurs, it would certainly be considered a success.
