Mauricio Pochettino is keen to return as Tottenham Hotspur‘s manager amid rumours linking him with Steven Gerrard’s job at Aston Villa, according to a report from 90min.

Pochettino has been without a job since Paris Saint-Germain sacked him back in July. He is a top manager and it’s only a matter of time before he’s back, but Villa Park apparently isn’t the destination he’s dreaming of at the moment.

The Telegraph reported yesterday that Aston Villa will target Pochettino to replace Gerrard.

The legendary Englishman’s plans haven’t come to fruition so far, with Villa stuck in 16th in the Premier League table after 10 games. Many fans want Gerrard gone and would welcome Pochettino with open arms.

However, the Argentine, branded as ‘world class’ by Jame O’Hara, reportedly does not fancy the Villa job at this moment in time and has his eye on a return to North London to become Tottenham’s next manager.

The report claims that Pochetiino thinks the Spurs job will be vacant soon with Antonio Conte’s contract expiring at the end of this Premier League season.

Tottenham fans are desperate for the Italian to extend his deal, but the report claims that Pochettino is holding out for a call from Daniel Levy to replace Conte if he does leave the club.

Aston Villa, as a result, are an unlikely option, but the report claims that Pochettino’s representatives will listen to the Birmingham club’s offer should one arrive.

Pochettino is an elite manager, there are no two ways about it.

The Argentine was often ridiculed for not winning a trophy during his time at Tottenham, but the job he did at North London is one of the biggest reasons why Spurs are among the top teams in the country today.

His work with the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min took them to a whole new level, and Villa are absolutely right to target him if they’re preparing for life after Gerrard.

However, if he’s convinced Conte will not stay at Tottenham beyond the end of this season, he could well wait for Tottenham instead of rushing into a more difficult job now.
