Report: West Ham submitted deal sheet to PL in loan bid for £33m striker

West Ham came close to enough to a loan move for Duvan Zapata that the Hammers were able to submit a deal sheet before it fell through on deadline day, according to a report from 90min.

Irons fans appear to be amongst the most frustrated in the Premier League following a quiet end to the window. In fact, David Moyes was not able to strengthen his first-team ranks at all across the entire month.

They were linked with some big-money moves in the final hours of the window. West Ham reportedly made a £50 million bid for Kalvin Phillips. And it was even claimed that they had agreed a fee for Darwin Nunez.

But it would appear that the closest they came to a signing came in the form of Zapata. 90min reports that the Colombian was very interested in moving to the London Stadium.

Zapata had been heavily linked with Newcastle throughout the month. However, it would seem that the Magpies did not meet Atalanta’s asking price, which was around £33 million.

West Ham meanwhile, seemed to get incredibly close. 90min reports that a deal sheet for a loan with an option to buy was submitted to the Premier League. However, the move subsequently fell through.

Zapata reports unlikely to do anything to alleviate West Ham fans’ frustrations

It was a huge surprise to see West Ham linked with the likes of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips. At that stage of the window, there appeared to be absolutely no chance of a deal.

For some West Ham fans, the bids seemed somewhat pointless. It was almost as if the board were trying to make a statement with little intention of making a signing.

Hearing that a deal for Zapata seemingly fell through at the last minute will only add to that frustration. Admittedly, it is not clear what happened to make the move collapse.

But having got close enough to apparently submit a deal sheet, West Ham’s hierarchy could have surely got a loan move across the line if that was what they really wanted.
