Report: West Ham to follow Raphinha bid with £50m Kalvin Phillips offer

Leeds United are set to receive a second £50 million bid from West Ham for one of their players this month, with The Sun reporting that the Hammers want Kalvin Phillips.

The Whites looked set to face a fight to keep one of their key stars in the final days of the January transfer window. It was reported earlier this week that Raphinha had attracted a £50 million offer from David Moyes’ men.

Leeds reportedly rejected that bid. But they now face another problem. The Sun is now claiming that West Ham are ready to offer the same amount for Phillips.

Phillips is currently sidelined. But West Ham are apparently still hoping to bring him to the London Stadium before the deadline passes.

Unsurprisingly, Marcelo Bielsa wants to keep Phillips. The Sun adds that West Ham are prepared to wait until the summer to try and land the England international.

Leeds board simply cannot consider West Ham bid for Kalvin Phillips

Leeds rejecting West Ham’s bid for Raphinha was absolutely no surprise. The Brazilian is the Whites’ top goalscorer. And he has been their best player over the course of the season.

There is a lot of frustration around Elland Road right now. Leeds have not strengthened their squad this month, while the sides around them have largely been busy.

Letting the window close without a new signing coming in would be one thing for Leeds, but that would be nothing compared to the reaction should they decide to sell Phillips.

Phillips is the most important player in Bielsa’s system. Jose Mourinho previously lauded his ‘amazing‘ personality.

And replacing him before the window shut would be nearly impossible.

Leeds receiving interest in Phillips is no surprise. But there is surely no way that the Whites can contemplate letting the academy graduate leave this month – no matter the amount West Ham put on the table.
