Report: Fresh Newcastle bid imminent with personal terms agreed with striker
Newcastle are set to make a fresh offer for Duvan Zapata in the next few hours, with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that he has already agreed personal terms with the striker.
The Magpies appear to have stepped up their pursuit of the Colombian in recent days. It was reported this week that they had made a £4 million loan bid. The offer included a £21.7 million obligation to buy that would be taken up as long as Eddie Howe’s men stay up.
Atalanta however, rejected that bid. The Serie A side value the 30-year-old at £33.3 million.
Interestingly, the report notes that they are open to a loan deal that comes with an obligation to buy. However, they want Newcastle to commit to making the move permanent whichever division they end up in.
Tuttomercatoweb reports that Newcastle are set to submit an improved bid imminently.
And Zapata will seemingly hope that a fee can be agreed. The report suggests that he has already sorted personal terms with Newcastle.
He is set to earn more than £96,000-a-week on Tyneside. And Tuttomercatoweb suggests that that would see Zapata almost triple his salary.
Newcastle agreeing personal terms with Zapata may feel like boost for Atalanta
Obviously, it is a boost for Newcastle to have agreed terms with Zapata. But Atalanta may feel that that strengthens their hand as they hold out for €40 million.
The Magpies are clearly incredibly keen to bring Zapata to St James’ Park. It says a lot that they have offered him such lucrative terms ahead of a potential move.
So Newcastle will certainly want to make sure that they get a deal across the line.
Atalanta therefore, can look to dig their heels in a little more. They already know that Newcastle have the funds to do plenty of business this month.
Their next bid for Zapata is reportedly on its way.
