Report: West Ham now could move to sign 'unbelievable' Italian international, who started in Euro 2020 final

West Ham United are considering a move for Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri, according to The Guardian.

The report suggests that Emerson is up for sale at Chelsea, and would provide competition for Aaron Cresswell.

West Ham are looking for defensive reinforcements, given the injury crisis they’ve currently got at centre-back.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Thilo Kehrer is also a key target for David Moyes’ side, who have lost both of their Premier League matches this season.

Moyes’ defenders couldn’t contain Erling Haaland in their opening fixture against Manchester City.

And the Hammers’ back line failed to clear their lines properly to prevent Nottingham Forest scoring a scrappy goal in their first top flight win in over two decades.

West Ham consider move for Emerson

Emerson has spent more than four years as a Chelsea player, although he was sent out on loan to Lyon last season.

The 28-year-old was a regular starter for the French club, scoring a goal and providing two assists in 29 league appearances.

He’s fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea though, with the arrival of Marc Cucurella making him third choice behind Ben Chilwell.

The Italian international, who started the Euro 2020 final against England, would be a great option for West Ham.

Described by manager Thomas Tuchel as ‘unbelievable’, Emerson’s capable of playing in a more advanced role on the left if the Hammers decide to switch to a three at the back system.

Emerson is also a Champions League winner, and would have plenty to prove in the Premier League after only making 33 appearances in the competition thus far.

He may not be the most glamorous signing, but if West Ham consider a move for Emerson, it could allow Moyes to switch up his tactics at the back if needed.
