Report: Tottenham set to sign Ashley Phillips; Paratici to watch him tonight

Tottenham Hotspur are set to sign Ashley Phillips, with the Daily Mail reporting that Fabio Paratici is expected to give the deal the green light tonight.

Phillips has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a little while. The 17-year-old made his first-team debut for Blackburn Rovers this season, and started the 2-1 win over West Brom at the weekend.

Reports earlier this year claimed that Tottenham lead the race for Phillips. Meanwhile, there was also interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Of course, the Blues have worked incredibly hard on strengthening their youth ranks in this window. They have signed Carney Chukwuemeka. And they are closing in on landing Cesare Casadei.

But it seems that Phillips is heading elsewhere. The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham are close to agreeing a deal to sign the centre-back.

In fact, Paratici is planning to attend Blackburn’s clash with Reading on Wednesday. And while there, he is set to get the move across the line.

Obviously, Phillips is unlikely to find himself in Antonio Conte’s plans this season. He has only just broken into Rovers’ senior side this term.

But it would be a coup to agree a deal. Clearly, there are many heavyweights looking at a potential move for the starlet.

Former Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray said that he was a ‘exciting‘ talent last season. And Tottenham clearly have their eye on the best prospects coming through in the EFL.

It will be interesting to see whether Spurs immediately loan Phillips out. He is now in the fold at Ewood Park. And the very early stages suggest that Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men may be the pace-setters in the Championship.

Perhaps Paratici will have a better idea after watching them in action tonight.
