Report: Tottenham set to miss out on ‘special’ player Conte loves in January, he’s about to sign a new deal

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will already know what he wants the club to get out of the January transfer window.

A report from the Daily Mail has shared an update on a number of potential Spurs targets.

After Dejan Kulusevski’s injury earlier this season, another high-quality forward is certainly in Conte’s plans.

He won’t want a repeat of the drop-off in form Tottenham experienced when he and Richarlison both picked up injuries.

Tottenham will want to let several young players leave on loan, but only if ready-made replacements are signed.

Bryan Gil is one of those players, who appears desperate to go out and play first-team football this season.

A number of players have been on Tottenham’s radar for some time.

However, the Daily Mail’s report now suggests a move for Everton’s Anthony Gordon now looks unlikely.

That’s because Gordon looks set to sign a new contract, with his current deal at Goodison Park expiring in 2025.

The 21-year-old signed that deal in 2020, and his stock has significantly risen since then.

However, he looks set to stay at the Merseyside club for a little while longer.

Tottenham target Gordon set to sign new contract

The report suggests that Gordon and midfielder Alex Iwobi are ‘set to sign new deals’.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke told Give Me Sport that Tottenham were the frontrunners to sign Gordon.

Antonio Conte is a big fan of the ‘special’ winger and his interest in Gordon has been reported for some time.

Given Gordon’s importance to Everton, his age, and the length on his current deal, he would be an expensive signing for Tottenham.

His pace, directness and work-rate would be appealing to Conte, but there are better-value options on the market.

Making significant signings in January is always difficult.

Tottenham may need to be patient for the right player to emerge.

With Gordon now set to sign a new contract at Everton, that almost certainly rules him out of an immediate move to north London.
