Report: Tottenham change their transfer plans, now they're targeting 'quality' cover for their £25m player

Tottenham Hotspur are now targeting ‘quality’ cover for Dejan Kulusevski, with Football.London reporting that the club have changed their transfer plans.

Spurs were busy over the summer as they added seven new players to Antonio Conte’s squad.

One concern has been that Tottenham’s summer signings haven’t massively improved the quality of Conte’s starting XI so far.

But it seems the club could be about to change their approach ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Tottenham targeting ‘quality’ cover for Kulusevski

Kulusevski has been a revelation for Spurs ever since he made the loan switch from Juventus back in January. They can reportedly turn his loan deal into a permanent transfer for a fee of £25 million (Evening Standard).

But before they make this move, Football.London reports that Spurs are now in the market to provide Conte with a quality alternative option to the Swedish winger.

The outlet claims the club have now changed their transfer plans and will be focusing on signings that will improve the quality of the squad, rather than the quantity.

Conte has apparently been frustrated by the lack of options on his bench during games of late as Kulusevski and Richarlison are currently sidelined.

Bryan Gil is expected to be allowed to leave on loan in January and Spurs will set their sights on a direct alternative to Kulusevski.

It’s very early days but Spurs’ summer signings haven’t dramatically improved Conte’s starting line-up so far.

Ivan Perisic has made an impact from wing-back but has been battling Ryan Sessegnon for a place in the side. Richarlison was proving to be an important player but picked up a calf injury earlier this month.

Whereas Yves Bissouma has really struggled to nail down a place in the side so far, mixing some promising cameos with underwhelming displays when he’s started the game.

Clement Lenglet has made a difference in Spurs’ backline with his abilities on the ball but is also battling it out with Ben Davies for a spot in the side.

It’s the complete opposite for Djed Spence though, who’s barely been used since making the switch from Middlesbrough.

Spurs certainly need to focus on improving Conte’s starting line-up and providing the Italian with more top-quality options.

Kulusevski’s injury has highlighted their need for another creative player and Conte will undoubtedly want someone who is capable of providing a similar level of quality to the Swede.
