Report: Tottenham sent scouts to watch Anthony Gordon on Tuesday
Tottenham Hotspur sent scouts to watch Anthony Gordon in action for Everton against Brighton on Tuesday, according to a report from the Daily Mail, only for the youngster to miss the game through illness.
Tuesday proved to be an utterly miserable night for the Toffees. Frank Lampard’s men were beaten 4-1 by the Seagulls at Goodison Park. And it was only a stoppage-time penalty which handed the scoreline the slightest crumb of respectability.
The fans turned on the board during the game. And they may not be the only ones who left Goodison feeling disgruntled – judging by reports from the Mail.
Tottenham sent scouts to watch Gordon in game he missed
The report claims that Spurs sent representatives to watch Gordon as they continue to be linked with the Everton star. However, there was one big problem.
As noted by the Daily Mail, Gordon missed the game through illness. So it would appear that Tottenham’s trip was somewhat wasted – though you would imagine that they would have been impressed by one or two Brighton players in the game.
It does appear that Gordon is likely to stay at Everton. Recent reports from The Telegraph have suggested that the 21-year-old is ready to sign a new contract on Merseyside.
However, Sky journalist Lyall Thomas told Last Word on Spurs this week that Tottenham remain admirers of the forward. In fact, he claimed that he is one of Fabio Paratici’s favourite players in the Premier League.
Obviously, one performance against the Seagulls was always unlikely to decide whether Spurs made a move anyway.
Gordon has shown that he could be a ‘sensational‘ talent. Reports have suggested that he could be worth £60 million.
And if anything, the manner of Tuesday’s loss may help Tottenham’s cause. Everton, unfortunately, are in another relegation battle. And it is hard to see how they move forward.
So Gordon will surely have growing doubts about signing a new deal if Spurs are prepared to take him away from what currently appears to be a mess at Goodison Park.
