Report: Tottenham preparing £34.5m bid for defender Piero Hincapie
Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a £34.5 million bid for Piero Hincapie, according to a report from German outlet Kicker.
Spurs are continuing their pursuit of a left-sided defender. They have, so far, failed in the chase of their top target Alessandro Bastoni.
Reports on Monday claimed that they are hoping to agree a deal for Clement Lenglet imminently. But it seems that they have other names on their radar.
In fact, a bid may soon be on its way. According to Kicker, Spurs are preparing a £34.5 million offer for the Ecuador international, who only joined Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
The 20-year-old made 33 appearances for the Bundesliga side in all competitions. The majority of the time saw Hincapie play as a left-back, but he also played a number of times in the middle.
It remains to be seen what Leverkusen would make of such a bid. But obviously, the chance to make such a large profit so quickly may appeal to the German side.
Tottenham preparing Hincapie bid
Hincapie would not be the finished article if he moved to Tottenham this summer. Certainly, someone such as Bastoni or Lenglet would probably be able to make a more immediate impact in North London.
But Spurs fans can take a lot of encouragement from FB Ref‘s assessment of the youngster. They list 10 centre-backs with a similar style to Hincapie. And there are some fantastic names on the list.
Top of the rankings is Josko Gvardiol, who Spurs fans know a lot about. Meanwhile, Dayot Upamecano is second. And in eighth is Cristian Romero. So there is clearly huge potential.
He has been described as ‘really impressive‘. And it seems that Tottenham may be about to make their move to try and bring the starlet to North London.
