Tottenham Hotspur hope to agree a deal for Clement Lenglet in the coming days, with Sport reporting that Spurs are on pole position to secure a loan move for the Barcelona defender.

Lenglet looks unlikely to spend next season at the Nou Camp. The Frenchman is reportedly determined to leave the Catalan giants. And it seemed that his decision on his next move came down to two clubs.

In fact, Tottenham were battling Roma and former boss Jose Mourinho for his signature. However, the Giallorossi have backed away due to his wages. He apparently earns £164,000-a-week with Barca.

Spurs remain in the running and Antonio Conte wants to sign the 27-year-old, according to Sport. And it seems that a deal may not be too far away.

Sport claims that Tottenham hope to formalise an agreement for Lenglet in the next few days. It is noted that Spurs enjoy a very good relationship with the Barcelona hierarchy.

Tottenham hope to agree Lenglet deal

Of course, Tottenham fans may be wary of the latest reports from Spain. Reports previously claimed that Barca were ready to agree a two-year loan deal with Spurs for Lenglet.

Obviously, those reports were premature. So supporters may be reluctant to get a little carried away for the time-being.

But you could understand why a move may appeal to Tottenham. Conte is determined to sign a new left-sided centre-back this summer.

A move for Alessandro Bastoni has, so far, come to nothing. And the Italian currently appears to have his sights set on staying at Inter Milan.

Lenglet would fill that void on the left. And a loan deal would leave Spurs with plenty in the kitty for their other targets.

He is a ‘world-class‘ player in and around the France squad. And he has made well over 150 appearances for Barca. So a loan deal could certainly be a shrewd move from Tottenham – if an agreement is indeed just around the corner.
