Report: Tottenham now willing to sell 'magnificent' Pochettino signing for under £17m this summer
The Argentine was originally brought to Tottenham by former boss Mauricio Pochettino in the summer of 2019 on a season-long loan, with the move then made permanent just a few months later for a total fee of £42 million (£27.3m transfer fee + £15m loan fee).
But the ‘magnificent’ Lo Celso has struggled to make an impact in English football and is now reportedly up for sale.
Tottenham willing to sell Lo Celso
The Argentina international impressed during his loan spell at Villarreal and could be set for a return to Spain.
Tottenham are now asking for less than half of what they paid for him two summers ago.
Lo Celso was sent out on loan by Antonio Conte during the second-half of last season and was brilliant under Unai Emery. He was a pivotal part of the Villarreal side that made the Champions League semi-final and it seems that the La Liga outfit are keen to bring him back to the club permanently.
Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano reported that the Spanish club were in direct negotiations with Spurs over a deal and the player is top of their list.
It seems that the player may a decision to make this summer as both teams are keen to add the Argentine to their squad. Having had two successful spells in Spain at Real Betis and most recently Villarreal, Lo Celso could be keen to return to La Liga once again.
TBR’s View: Lo Celso does not feature in Conte’s plans this season
The player has fallen out of favour with Conte and since returning from his loan spell in Spain, he hasn’t made a single appearance in pre-season.
Lo Celso was left out of the squad for the tour of South Korea and didn’t travel to Scotland for a friendly against Rangers last weekend.
Conte seems to have made it clear that the Argentine does not feature in his plans this season and he looks set to move on this summer.
