Fabrizio Romano says Villarreal are in 'direct negotiations' with Tottenham to sign Giovani Lo Celso
Unai Emery’s Villarreal have made Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso their top target in this summer’s transfer window.
The Argentine, branded as ‘magnificent’, is a fantastic footballer. He can score goals, create chances and is a good passer of the ball, but throughout his time at Spurs, he just hasn’t been able to remain consistent.
Antonio Conte gave him a few opportunities after he took charge of the club last season, but Lo Celso just wasn’t what he was looking for. As a result, he made it a point to push him out of the club.
The 26-year-old was sent out on loan to Villarreal in January, and he was amazing for them. Now, they are desperate to sign him on a permanent deal.
Tottenham star Giovani Lo Celso is Villarreal’s top target
Even though Lo Celso is still only 26 and is about to begin the prime years of his career, Tottenham and Conte just don’t want him at the club anymore.
The Italian even left him out of Spurs’ pre-season tour to South Korea earlier this month, which further made it clear that Lo Celso has no future at the club.
The midfielder is almost guaranteed to leave Tottenham this summer, and Villarreal are very, very keen to sign him, claims Romano.
Lo Celso is apparently on top of Villarreal’s transfer shortlist, and they have now started ‘direct negotiations’ with Tottenham to sort out a deal in the coming weeks. However, they aren’t the only side interested in the talented Argentine.
TBR View:
Lo Celso showed in the second half of last season that he is a fantastic player.
The Argentine was one of the biggest reasons why the Yellow Submarine knocked Bayern Munich out of the Champions League last season, and it is no surprise that they want him back.
Lo Celso still has three years left on his contract at Tottenham. Even though Spurs have made it clear that they don’t want him anymore, they are in a strong position when it comes to transfer negotiations.
It will be interesting to see where Lo Celso will end up this summer, but it really is a shame that it hasn’t worked out for him at Tottenham.
