Report: Tottenham now want to sign player previously deemed 'the best midfielder in the world'
Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a superb summer on the transfer front.
Spurs hit the ground running in the window, quickly bringing in Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.
Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet then followed in arriving at Tottenham.
And this week, Spurs finally got the Djed Spence deal over the line after protracted talks.
It doesn’t look as though Tottenham are done just yet.
Recent reports have suggested that Antonio Conte is now looking for a new attacking.
James Maddison, a reported long-time target for Tottenham, is now apparently once again on Tottenham’s radar.
And now, Italian newspaper Il Messaggero has claimed that Spurs are eyeing Nicolo Barella.
Il Messaggero provided a round-up of the day’s main transfer stories involving Italian clubs.
The outlet mentioned Tottenham’s talks with AC Milan over Japhet Tanganga and their reported interest in Milan Skriniar.
Then, they wrote that “Spurs are also interested in Barella”.
Tottenham were linked with the Inter Milan star last year in wake of his efforts in helping Italy win Euro 2020.
Barella is a top talent who Italian agent Furio Valcareggi deemed the “best midfielder in the world” last year.
However, the 25-year-old won’t come cheap – CMW recently claimed he has a €90m (£76.5m) price tag.
As well as Tottenham, Liverpool have been linked with Barella, who won Serie A under Conte in 2020-21.
