Report: Tottenham now hopeful of signing 'unplayable' star on loan

Tottenham Hotspur hope that they have convince Wolves to let them sign Adama Traore on loan with an obligation to buy the winger in the summer, according to a report from The Telegraph.

Traore has been linked with Spurs throughout the January transfer window. And it was recently reported that they were confident of completing a deal for the Spain international.

Those reports noted that Tottenham hoped to pay £18 million for Traore. But it would appear they are looking to secure a deal where they only need to pay that sort of sum in the summer.

The Telegraph is now reporting that Spurs hope to convince Wolves to agree a loan deal for this window. The move would then become permanent at the end of the season.

Unsurprisingly, Wolves would rather Tottenham pay £20 million this month for Traore, who was once described as a ‘unplayable‘ by Jurgen Klopp. But The Telegraph claims that they may be forced to consider the loan option due to his contract situation. His deal at Molineux expires at the end of next season.

Tottenham taking Adama Traore on loan would be ideal if deal allows Antonio Conte to bring further targets in

A loan with an obligation to buy comes with an element of risk. For example, if Tottenham had signed Traore’s former teammate Matt Doherty in such a deal, there would have been a huge amount of discontent this past summer when the time came for Spurs to pay the fee, after he endured a disappointing first year in North London.

If Traore does not hit the ground running, Tottenham fans will be frustrated in the summer when the club then part with £20 million – even when that was always the plan.

Having said that, it could be an incredibly smart move. Fabio Paratici may have more to spend this month. And with that, Spurs may be able to land more of Conte’s targets.

And if Traore does well, £20 million may look a steal by the summer.
