Report: Tottenham to bid £18m for player Grealish said was 'unbelievable'

Tottenham Hotspur are hoping that a bid in the region of £18m will be enough for Wolves to consider selling Adama Traore to them during the January transfer window.

It’s widely known that Spurs are keen on Traore. He is a player Fabio Paratici wants, and multiple reports have claimed Antonio Conte could use him as a right wing-back in North London. Traore’s price has dipped massively compared to recent windows, with recent reports suggesting £20m might do the trick.

But according to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are looking to go even cheaper. They report that Spurs hope to go in with an £18m bid for Traore and hope Wolves will do business. Traore started for Wolves today as they saw off Sheffield United, but blew his big chance of a goal when clean through.

Traore has long been considered a player of untapped potential. He is known for his pace and power, but lacks the stats to back it up. This season, he has yet to score or assist. However, he is still well-respected. England midfielder Jack Grealish once spoke of Traore’s speed, labelling the Wolves man as ‘unbelievable’ in a past interview.

If this report is right, then surely Tottenham aren’t haggling over around £2m? It’s been widely claimed that Wolves will do business around £20m, so this £18m talk is bordering on cheeky.

However, it seems to be a deal that’s getting closer. Tottenham are clearly keen on bringing the Spanish winger in. He’s been linked too often to suggest it’s nothing but paper talk.

Traore will need to improve his final product, however. Conte will demand big things from him if he does sign and with that, goals and assists will be needed. The potential is there, but it has been for years and never been quite realised.
