Report: Tottenham interested in signing 'exciting' player this summer and then loaning him straight out
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Blackburn Rovers youngster Ashley Phillips this summer and then loaning him straight out, according to Sky Sports.
The ‘exciting’ Phillips is one of the brightest prospects in the Championship at the moment. And he’s already made two appearances for Rovers in the league this season at just 17-years-old.
But with Tottenham apparently planning to loan the player out, it could actually sway the centre-back to make the switch.
Tottenham interested in Phillips
Sky Sports reports that Tottenham are interested in signing Phillips this summer. But the club are yet to make any official bids for the youngster.
The England U17 international would either slot into the academy in North London or would be loaned out to carry on playing first-team football.
But Blackburn are looking to get Phillips to sign a new deal to fend off interest from Antonio Conte’s men.
Spurs transfer guru Fabio Paratici apparently watched the youngster play against Reading last night.
Paratici is clearly going for a balanced approach this summer as he’s building a squad for Conte, but also building for the future.
The Italian has signed experienced players like Ivan Perisic, but has also added up-and-coming talents like Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie.
If Spurs were to sign Phillips, they would seemingly send him out on loan in a similar way to Udogie. The Italian full-back has been sent back to Udinese to play in Serie A for one more year.
It would be a smart move for Tottenham to allow Phillips to continue rackin up first-team experience as he continues to develop.
The youngster has just broken into the first-team at Blackburn and will probably be keen to carry on playing regular football.
