Report: Tottenham in battle with Arsenal to sign 'unbelievable' £10m starlet

Tottenham Hotspur are battling Arsenal in the race to sign Djed Spence and are considering making a move for the right-back in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (18/1; 10:46).

Spence is attracting plenty of attention after a superb run of form in the Championship this season. He has actually been loaned out by parent club Middlesbrough.

And Boro’s loss has been Nottingham Forest’s gain. He has been superb for Steve Cooper’s side. And Ian Wright labelled his display ‘unbelievable‘ after Forest knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup.

One Player Who Should REJECT Your Club

That appearance certainly appeared to leave a mark on the Gunners. It was reported that Arsenal were keen. Boro meanwhile, want £10 million for the 21-year-old.

Leeds are also said to be admirers of the defender. And now, Sky Sports have reported on their live transfer blog (18/1; 10:46) that Tottenham are also in the running.

The report notes that Tottenham have had Spence on their radar for some time. ESPN, for example, suggested that Jose Mourinho wanted to sign him 18 months ago.

Sky Sports is now saying Tottenham are considering making a move. Spence, of course, cannot play for another club this season. So he would likely return to Forest on loan should he seal a deal this month.

Could Tottenham eye Djed Spence as alternative to Adama Traore?

Obviously, the player Tottenham have been most heavily linked with this month is Adama Traore. And it appears that the Wolves star is being eyed as a potential right wing-back option.

Spence is another contender for that position in the Tottenham side. So perhaps Spurs may make their move should a bid for Traore come to nothing.

Traore clearly has advantages. He has plenty of Premier League experience. And he would be able to contribute immediately.

But Spence is establishing himself as one of the most exciting players in the second tier.
