Romano says Tottenham are really trying to sign 'incredible' player

Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Tottenham Hotspur are still trying to sign Adama Traore from Wolves, despite Bruno Lage wanting to keep the winger for the rest of the season.

Traore has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium throughout the January transfer window. In fact, it has previously been suggested that he is the player most likely to end up moving to Spurs.

There have been suggestions that he could join on an initial loan. The Telegraph reported that Tottenham would also agree to an obligation to buy for £20 million in the summer.

So far however, Traore remains at Molineux. And Spurs remain without a signing under Antonio Conte. But Romano has suggested that Tottenham are not giving up on signing Traore.

The journalist added that Lage is not keen to lose the Spain international.

Tottenham will fear missing the boat on Adama Traore after first goal

You could understand why Wolves were open to potentially letting Traore join Tottenham.

When he at his best and in full flight, he is absolutely outstanding. He is a player previously labelled ‘incredible‘ by Pep Guardiola.

However, his numbers over the last couple of years are simply not good enough. He is yet to provide an assist in the Premier League this season.

Having said that, Traore enjoyed a significant moment at the weekend. He scored his first goal of the season in Wolves’ win over Southampton. And it was a good finish from the former Barcelona man.

Wolves only have one more fixture before the end of the January transfer window. But should Traore go and score or provide an assist against Brentford, Lage will surely be even more determined to keep him.

His contract situation means the door remains somewhat open for a move in the summer. But Tottenham would surely be wise to consider other options as they struggle to get a deal for Traore across the line.
