Report: Tottenham Hotspur now want to sign £52m attacker after he gave their defence nightmares, Pochettino loves him

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has already made it clear he wants reinforcements in January.

A report from Record.pt suggests that he’s been impressed enough by one of Spurs’ opponents this season that he wants to sign them.

Spurs started the season brilliantly, and have qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

However, their form has suffered in recent weeks, with Conte missing several of his key attackers.

A report from Football London suggests Tottenham want ‘quality’ cover for Dejan Kulusevski.

Kulusevski returned from an injury against Liverpool yesterday, and made an immediate impact off the bench.

However, his absence alongside Richarlison has had a seriously negative impact on Tottenham’s form.

The report from Record suggests that Tottenham want to sign Sporting attacker Marcus Edwards.

Spurs fans will be well aware of Edwards, after he scored against them in the Champions League in their 1-1 draw at the end of last month.

The young Englishman gave Tottenham’s defence a host of problems, with Eric Dier saying he’s ‘very talented’.

Tottenham want to sign Edwards

Edwards came from Tottenham’s academy before making the move to Portugal.

He only made one senior appearance in north London under Mauricio Pochettino before joining Vitoria Guimaraes.

Pochettino was a massive fan of Edwards, and previously compared him to Lionel Messi.

Edwards has a release clause, but he could be available for £52m which is slightly below that valuation.

The 23-year-old would be a fantastic option for Tottenham.

His versatility would mean he could deputise for any of Spurs’ forward players if called upon.

His time in the club’s academy would also mean he’s a home-grown player, allowing them to add foreign signings in other positions if needed.

Given Conte’s reluctance to play the likes of Bryan Gil, Edwards would present him with a player who’s more than capable of going straight into the first team.

Tottenham’s defenders would certainly appreciate not having to play against Edwards again.
