Report: Tottenham Hotspur now interested in signing 'the best' goalkeeper in the world, he'll cost £43m

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has spent the last 12 months trying to shape the Spurs squad into his image.

Conte and Fabio Paratici have already made some brilliant moves in the transfer market.

A report from 90min suggests that they’ve now identified the next position they want to improve.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been sensational for Tottenham for over a decade now.

The Frenchman is set to lead his country out at another World Cup this month after lifting the trophy four years ago.

However, there is now plenty of speculation that Conte may be getting ready to replace Lloris.

Spurs have been linked with a number of keepers in recent weeks as they prepare for Lloris to eventually leave.

The report from 90min now suggests that Tottenham are interested in signing FC Porto stopper Diogo Costa.

Costa is one of the most exciting young goalkeepers in the world, and has earned plenty of praise this season.

His three Champions League clean sheets show he can perform at the highest level.

Costa is also set to be Portugal’s first choice keeper at the World Cup, ahead of Rui Patricio and Jose Sa.

Tottenham interested in Porto keeper Costa

The 23-year-old has risen through the ranks at Porto to become their number one.

He took over from legendary stopper Iker Casillas, who is a massive fan of Costa.

“Diogo Costa is becoming a world-class goalkeeper,” Casillas said in an interview with O Jogo.

“He’s a star. He’s going to be a great goalkeeper.”

Former Porto owner Vitor Baia went one step further with his praise for Costa.

Baia was asked if Costa could one day become the best goalkeeper in the world, to which he replied: “He’s already the best in the world!”

The Portuguese goalkeeper has a £43m buy-out clause, but that could end up looking like a bargain.

Jamie O’Hara has said that Lloris can’t cope with Antonio Conte’s tactics.

Costa is a much more suited to playing out from the back and also excellently deals with crosses from out wide.

Tottenham won’t be the only club interested in Costa going forward.

Conte will be hoping Paratici can pull off another fantastic piece of business to get the young goalkeeper in.
