Tottenham potentially handed blow as rivals reportedly open talks with Kounde

Chelsea are allegedly in talks with Tottenham Hotspur linked centre-back Jules Kounde.

What’s the story?

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have made the France international their main centre-back target.

The ace is also thought to be open to a move. Reports have previously claimed the Sevilla defender wants to join a team in the Champions League.

Chelsea are in next season’s competition after finishing in the Premier League top-four and winning the competition last year.

Meanwhile, Spurs were previously in for the ‘quality‘ defender. It was claimed the 22-year-old has rejected the Lilywhites due to their lack of Champions League football.

Tottenham handed massive blow

The move from Chelsea to make Kounde their main target has handed Tottenham a big blow.

A move for the 22-year-old was already close to impossible due to the club’s status in Europe. However, the lack of competition in the race to sign the defender made a Spurs move possible.

But, the hope seems to have evaporated into thin air with Chelsea allegedly opening talks. The Blues’ Champions League qualification surely makes them an attractive prospect for the youngster.

Having won the competition, there is also the very real prospect of winning major trophies; something that has eluded Tottenham over the last 13 years.
