Report: Tottenham eyeing Marco Asensio; £34m price could drop further
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Marco Asensio, and his contract situation could lead to a significant discount on the Real Madrid star’s asking price, according to a report from Calciomercatoweb.
Spurs have been hugely impressive this summer. They have strengthened in a number of areas. And they have arguably not that spent that much considering how much quality that they have added.
It does appear that the next few weeks will see Spurs looking for the icing on the cake signings. Reports have suggested that they may be keen on James Maddison.
But it appears that another name may be on their radar. According to Calciomercatoweb, Tottenham are keen on Asensio, along with Chelsea and AC Milan. Meanwhile, reports earlier in the window claimed that Arsenal were willing to make an offer.
The 26-year-old is out of contract next summer. Real want £34 million. However, Los Blancos may yet reduce their asking price considerably to make sure that he leaves in this window.
Asensio a signing Tottenham do not necessary need
Tottenham fans may not get too carried away until there is a lot more noise concerning their reported interest in Asensio.
He is probably not a signing that Spurs need. They already boasted one of the most impressive front threes in the Premier League. And they have since added Richarlison.
Asensio would improve almost any squad in world football. He is a ‘world-class‘ forward. And he should be at the peak of his powers given his age.
His contract situation opens the door for a potential coup for any buyer. So it will be interesting to see if Tottenham do indeed make a move for Asensio in the weeks ahead.
Much will depend on how much Real want for the attacker. But plenty of Spurs fans would be very happy if he made the move this summer.
