Report: Tottenham boss Conte a fan of Leeds star Kalvin Phillips

Antonio Conte is understood to be a fan of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, but The Telegraph has cast doubt over the likelihood of Tottenham Hotspur signing the Englishman.

There is plenty of anticipation building ahead of Spurs’ first summer under the Italian. They could still end the Premier League season inside the top-four and with their ticket punched for next term’s Champions League.

Qualifying for that competition could open the door for some exciting business. Reports on Wednesday claimed that they are prepared to offer £41.6 million to sign Gleison Bremer and Wilfried Singo from Torino.

The Telegraph also notes that the pair are on the radar. However, they also suggest that the home-grown quota will have to be factored into what Spurs do this summer.

The Telegraph suggests that Conte would be open to signing Phillips from Leeds. He is a fan of the 26-year-old.

But there is a problem. The Telegraph adds that it is highly questionable whether Daniel Levy would be prepared to offer what Manchester United would put on the table for Phillips.

Leeds fans would rather see Kalvin Phillips join Tottenham than Manchester United

Leeds fans are hoping that they stand a chance of keeping Phillips for the rest of his career. He has been their most important player in the last few years. And he is one of the players who could help them move to the next level.

He was previously labelled ‘amazing‘ by Jose Mourinho, and was linked with a £55 million move in January. So it would be a big lift for Leeds to keep him.

But the supporters are also realistic. And he looks to have the potential to play at the very highest level. So it may become too difficult to keep him at Elland Road at some stage.

Leeds fans want to see Phillips realise his full potential. But the large majority of the goodwill towards him will evaporate immediately if he moves to Old Trafford.

Phillips will be aware of that. And that may be where clubs such as Tottenham – who also want Jack Harrison – could sense a potential opportunity.
