AC Milan forward Rafael Leao could now be offered a new contract at the San Siro amid transfer links with Tottenham.

Football Italia, via La Gazzetta dello Sport, say Leao and Milan are preparing to open a new round of contract renewal talks in the coming days.

The Italian champions want Leao to sign a new contract before the upcoming World Cup and Milan’s final game before the tournament starts is on November 13.

Milan are expecting a long set of negotiations, with a salary and a release clause among the issues which need to be resolved.

Tottenham target Leao set for Milan contract talks

Calciomercatio. It reported last week that Spurs are one of the sides interested in signing Leao amid speculation over his future in Milan.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has said the situation is open but that Milan are in a slightly dangerous position.

He said: “It’s not an easy negotiation because Rafael Leao is something special. He was the best player in Serie A last season and I have a feeling it’ll happen the same this season because he’s doing great. The current deal expires in June 2024, so it’s kind of a dangerous situation.

“But at the same time, they are convinced the player knows that maybe one more season with Milan could be the best way for him to go to a top, top level.”

Leao has been called a ‘superstar‘ who will only sign for a club who can offer him Champions League football if he leaves Milan.

Spurs are focusing on getting into the knockout rounds right now and face two crucial European home matches in the weeks ahead.

Harry Kane is also looking to end his Champions League goal drought, while Leao lost 2-0 against Chelsea in Milan last night.
