Report: Spurs discussed using Winks as a makeweight in Richarlison bid
Tottenham Hotspur have discussed using Harry Winks as a makeweight in a bid for Richarlison as talks with Everton over the midfielder continue, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
Spurs are ready to let Winks leave this summer. The England international struggled to break into Antonio Conte’s plans during the latter stages of last season.
And of course, Tottenham have since added Yves Bissouma to their ranks. So Winks finds himself further down the pecking order in North London.

Everton want the 26-year-old and talks have begun. And it seems that Tottenham have used the opportunity to see whether discussions could lead to one of their own targets moving in the opposite direction.
The Daily Mail reports that there has been talk of using Winks as a makeweight in a bid for Richarlison. Everton however, would prefer to take the central midfielder on loan.
Winks a makeweight in Richarlison bid
It is probably not a big surprise that Tottenham are looking at ways to lower Richarlison’s asking price. Reports have claimed that the Toffees could demand £65 million for the Brazilian.
He is a ‘special‘ player. But Spurs probably have bigger priorities in this window. So paying £65 million may not be particularly appealing to Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici.
Winks meanwhile, looks to have little future with Tottenham. Unfortunately, he has not kicked on as some would have hoped when he burst onto the scene. Mauricio Pochettino once labelled him an ‘amazing‘ player.
So it would be ideal for Tottenham if they could agree a deal that sees Richarlison join them with Winks moving to Goodison Park. However, Everton are bound to take exception with their valuations of both players.
Spurs will hope that they are in a strong position. Winks is wanted by several Premier League sides. So Everton risk missing out should they dawdle.
Perhaps that may lead to talks over some sort of deal accelerating in the coming days.
