Sporting have told Tottenham Hotspur that they will have to pay around £66 million if they want to sign Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards, or they can forget about a deal for the pair, according to a report from Portuguese outlet Record.

Spurs are stepping up their pursuits of their January targets. And it seems that they are currently working on a potential move for two Sporting stars.

Reports from the Daily Mail on Wednesday claimed that they were set for talks with the Portuguese side over both Porro and Edwards.

Tottenham told Porro and Edwards will cost £66 million

Porro was ‘different class‘ against Tottenham in the Champions League earlier this season. Meanwhile, Edwards came through the ranks in North London before launching his career elsewhere.

Obviously, it seems that there is still work to be done. And Sporting are clearly planning to dig their heels in when it comes to losing the two players.

According to Record, Ruben Amorim’s men have made it clear that Spurs will have to pay £66 million for a double deal.

That would suggest that the club want both release clauses triggered. Porro will cost £40 million. Edwards, on the other hand, has a clause worth £52 million. But Spurs also have a 50 percent sell-on clause. So that would obviously add up to the figure Sporting are demanding.

That could be decent business if Antonio Conte sees both men playing important roles in his plans. We are seeing an increasing number of players make an impact in the Premier League after arriving from Portugal.

Hugo Lloris backed Edwards for a bright future earlier this season. And obviously, his natural ability is clear to see. FBRef even suggests that Cody Gakpo is one of the players who is similar to the 23-year-old.

It is obviously a hefty sum for Tottenham to pay, particularly in January. But you do get the impression that someone will trigger the clauses of the two players at some stage if Spurs don’t.
