Report: Tottenham to hold talks over Porro and Edwards today

Tottenham Hotspur appear to be stepping up their bid to bring players in during the January transfer window, with the Daily Mail reporting that they are set for talks with Sporting over both Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards today.

It is a critical period for Antonio Conte and Spurs. They have failed to win either of their first two games back following the World Cup. And they now find themselves five points adrift of the top-four.

The fans will be imploring those working behind the scenes to make signings this month. And it seems that Tottenham are hoping to make progress on two potential deals today.

Tottenham to hold talks over Porro and Edwards today

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Spurs will hold talks with Sporting on Wednesday. And they are looking at discussing terms for both Porro and Edwards.

The Mail notes that the Portuguese side want the release clauses triggered for both players. Porro will cost £40 million, while Edwards’ deal has a £52 million buy-out clause.

The situation is somewhat complicated by the fact that Tottenham have a 50 percent sell-on clause on Edwards. But that would obviously lower the price to Spurs quite considerably.

Both Porro and Edwards would be exciting additions, if they were players Conte was a fan of.

Porro has been ‘different class‘ for Sporting following his move from Manchester City. Meanwhile, Edwards stole the show during the first-half of their Champions League clash with Spurs in Portugal earlier this season.

He has that piece of magic up his sleeve. Mauricio Pochettino famously compared the 23-year-old with Lionel Messi while he was on the books in North London.

He has rebuilt his career in Portugal. And if Conte sees something he likes in Edwards, he could be an outstanding signing.

It may not be too long before we learn whether Tottenham stand a chance of a double deal.
