According to Football London, Cedric Soares is willing to leave Arsenal at the end of this season.

The Portugal international joined the Gunners from Southampton initially on loan in January 2020. That move was made permanent in the following summer, but the transfer never really made sense to Arsenal fans.

Mikel Arteta already had Hector Bellerin and Calum Chambers at the club, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles was also an option. It always felt like a needless move and considering how little Cedric has played, it’s safe to say that it has not worked out.

That’s why he’s prepared to leave the club in the summer.

Cedric is ready to leave Arsenal in the summer

Over the last few weeks, Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence. The youngster is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and it looks like the Gunners are really keen on his signature.

If Arteta gets his wish and signs Spence, the Englishman will become the deputy to Takehiro Tomiyasu, who has been absolutely brilliant for Arsenal sign he joined them from Bologna last summer.

That would push Cedric further down the pecking order and as a result, sources close to him have now told the outlet that he’s ready to leave Arsenal in search of regular game time elsewhere.

That would then open the door for Arsenal to sign Spence, which is the best thing for all parties involved.

TBR View:

It was clear from the start that Cedric was never going to be the first-choice at Arsenal. Hector Bellerin was always ahead of him in the pecking order, while Tomiyasu’s impressive start to life in England made the Japan international Arteta’s preferred option.

Cedric, labelled as ‘fantastic’ by Gilberto Silva, clearly has no future at Arsenal and if Arsenal sign Spence as well, there’s no way he’ll even make the squad next season.

A move away in the summer is the best thing for him and Arsenal. Rumours have linked him with a transfer to Atletico Madrid to fill the void left by Kieran Trippier, and that would be an amazing move for him.

It will be interesting to see how much Arsenal will demand for the full-back. Cedric came in on a free transfer, but the Portugal international still has about two-and-a-half years left on his contract, which makes it unlikely that he’ll be allowed to walk away for nothing.
