Report: Sour relationship with Southampton could affect Tottenham move for Ings
Tottenham Hotspur have a poor relationship with Southampton, something that could affect their move for Danny Ings, according to Evening Standard.
It was recently revealed that the forward rejected a new four-year contract offer from the Saints. The Englishman is reluctant to sign a new deal with his current one expiring next summer.
Southampton had a bad experience with Spurs during negotiations for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The north London outfit attempted to turn the Dane’s head early in negotiations, while Daniel Levy employed ‘hardball’ tactics.
Tottenham can sign Ings despite sour relationship
No doubt the sour relationship will affect negotiations, however, Tottenham can still sign the striker.
The player’s contract situation leaves any interested party in the driving seat with regard to a deal. Add to that Ings’ reluctance to sign a new contract and Spurs have a chance.
He would be a good addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad for a number of reasons.
During Euro 2020, Kane was dropping deep to help influence the Three Lions’ attacking play. The lack of help around him saw him register no shots on goal or touches in the opposition penalty area.
He has the help of Heung-Min Son at Tottenham, but that was the only help he got last season. Between the two of them, the duo contributed to 64 of Spurs’ 68 goals in the Premier League.
Adding Ings would reduce the burden on both players significantly next season.
