Tottenham have made Danny Ings their top transfer target for the summer window, with The Telegraph reporting that the Southampton star could be available for just £20 million.

Ings’s future is up in the air. It was recently reported that he has not signed a new deal on the south coast with his current terms having just 12 months left to run.

And that appears to have alerted Spurs and their new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham have identified Ings as their top target in this window.

The Telegraph adds that the feeling is that Southampton will let Ings leave due to his contract situation. And it is claimed that he could cost just £20 million.

Outstanding piece of business if Tottenham land Ings for just £20 million

Admittedly, some may have their concerns about paying £20 million for the striker.

He turns 29 this month. And he has previously endured some difficult periods due to injury.

However, he has been outstanding for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side. He scored 34 goals across the last two league campaigns.

So if Tottenham can bring him in, it could prove to be an amazing piece of business.

Finding someone to provide cover and competition for Harry Kane has been tough for several managers now.

Kane is so important to Spurs’ form. So they have needed someone good enough to fill his shoes, but also willing to accept a more peripheral role.

If Ings is prepared to join Tottenham, he could be the smartest striker signing the club have made in some time.

He is versatile, able to play up front alone or as part of a two. And he has scored a variety of goals, particularly since his move to St Mary’s.

So it is not hard to see why Tottenham have placed him at the top of their wishlist.
