Report: Romelu Lukaku has already rejected chance to join Tottenham
Romelu Lukaku has already rejected the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with the striker determined to join Inter Milan, according to a report from Calciomercato.It.
Lukaku endured a tough first year back at Chelsea. He ended the campaign with 15 goals in all competitions. But it is fair to say that he has not hit the heights that everyone expected when he completed his £97.5 million move to Stamford Bridge.
Of course, he joined the Blues from Inter. His time with the Nerazzurri was a huge success. He scored 64 goals in 95 games for the club, winning the Scudetto last year.
And it was Antonio Conte who led that Inter to the league title. Clearly, the pair enjoyed a special relationship at San Siro.
Reports have previously claimed that Conte wants Lukaku at Tottenham if Harry Kane leaves. And there were suggestions that the Italian had asked for the striker if he took the Paris Saint-Germain job.
Ultimately, both Conte and Kane look set to be with Spurs next year. Nevertheless, it seems that the Tottenham boss has still attempted to do a deal for Lukaku.
Calciomercato. It reports that the Belgian has already rejected an offer from Conte and Spurs. He wants to leave Chelsea for Inter Milan. It seems that he may get the chance to rejoin his former club on an initial loan.
Lukaku has rejected Tottenham
It is a surprise to hear that Tottenham have attempted to sign Lukaku. Firstly, it is hard to see a player moving from one of those clubs to the other.
Spurs already have one of the best strikers in the world. Lukaku is also ‘incredible‘ at his best. But Chelsea are ultimately going to want a big fee, even if he leaves on an initial loan. So it is hard to see Tottenham committing a chunk of their summer budget to a deal to sign Lukaku.
With Conte at the helm, much is possible for Spurs. But a move for Lukaku would have been truly remarkable for a number of reasons.
