Report: Conte requests PSG sign two players if he leaves Tottenham
In worrying news for Tottenham Hotspur fans, Antonio Conte has apparently already requested PSG make two signings should he take the job, with Calciomercato claiming that he wants Romelu Lukaku and Nicolo Barella.
Conte continues to be linked with the PSG job amid uncertainty over Mauricio Pochettino’s future. There have been a raft of conflicting reports concerning the Spurs boss and the Parc des Princes gig.
There have been suggestions that he has offered himself to the Ligue 1 side. Meanwhile, other reports have claimed that there has been no contact between Conte and PSG.
The reports could be beneficial for Conte even if he has no intention of leaving Tottenham. They have failed to win their last two games, and the summer is looming. So sceptical Spurs fans may perhaps wonder if he is using the links to strengthen his hand ahead of the window.
But it is potentially ominous that the reports are not going away. And Calciomercato has now suggested that he has requested PSG make two signings if he gets the job.
He apparently wants to be reunited with Lukaku and Barella. He worked with both men at Inter Milan.
And reports have suggested that Conte has wanted both at Tottenham. The Italian eyed Lukaku – who has been described as ‘world-class‘ – as a potential replacement for Harry Kane, while Barella was linked early on in his tenure.
Tottenham have opportunity to prove Antonio Conte would be better off staying put rather than moving to PSG
Of course, the PSG job will appeal to most. It provides an opportunity to work with many of the best players in the world. And the resources are astonishing.
However, one competition decides whether PSG have enjoyed a successful season. Pochettino has won the Ligue 1 title back this year. But his failure in the Champions League looks set to cost him.
Conte may feel that he is the man to deliver that Champions League crown. But Tottenham have real potential also.
They surely have an opportunity to prove that they can produce the kind of ambition he is looking for.
