Report: Conte wants Lukaku if Tottenham sold Harry Kane

A surprise report from Calciomercato has suggested that Antonio Conte would be interested in Romelu Lukaku if Tottenham Hotspur had to replace Harry Kane after Spurs missed out on Dusan Vlahovic.

Vlahovic looks set to bring an end to speculation surrounding his future. As noted by Calciomercato, he is closing in on a move to Juventus. And with that, he is set to disappoint several Premier League sides.

One of those who were keen on Vlahovic was Tottenham. But it would appear that Conte already has another marquee striker target in mind.

Surprisingly, Calciomercato reports that he would like to sign Lukaku if Tottenham ever had to replace Kane at any stage.

Of course, the Spurs talisman was heavily linked with Manchester City in the summer. And City did not sign anyone else instead. So it would be little surprise if the speculation started up again at some stage before the summer window opens.

Chelsea would surely sell Romelu Lukaku – but not to Tottenham

Right now, Chelsea would probably welcome the chance to offload Lukaku. The Belgian has not lived up to expectations since returning to Stamford Bridge. He cost the club a record fee in the summer.

He has scored three goals in all competitions since mid-September. And obviously, he angered plenty of Chelsea fans with the interview he recently gave.

Having said that, Lukaku joining Tottenham would be a huge shock. The Blues would surely have little interest in selling him to another Premier League side, let alone Spurs.

It would be incredibly embarrassing if he impressed in North London. Thomas Tuchel has previously labelled him a ‘world-class‘ striker.

He also has a brilliant relationship with Conte. The pair were pivotal as Inter Milan won the Scudetto last season.

Obviously, it is hard to see Lukaku ending up at Tottenham – even if Kane does leave at any stage. But it is also foolish to write anything off in the market.

Plenty of Spurs fans, for example, would have laughed had they been told they were set to make a £46 million bid for Luis Diaz in this window.
