Report: Real Madrid tell agent of £68.6m Spurs target deal would be 'impossible' for them this summer

The agent of Spurs target Jules Kounde has been told by Real Madrid that a move for the defender in this window would be impossible, according to a report from Spanish outlet Defensa Central.

Kounde is attracting a lot of attention after a superb spell with Sevilla. In fact, Tottenham appeared to be closing in on the Frenchman at one stage.

It was reported last week that Spurs had reached an agreement to sign the centre-back. However, it was claimed shortly after that Kounde had rejected a move to the Premier League side.

Defensa Central reports that Kounde wants to join Real. But he has been dealt a blow as he looks to secure a move to the Bernabeu.

The report claims that Kounde is valued at £68.6 million. And Los Blancos are in no position to pay that sort of fee for the 22-year-old.

In fact, Defensa Central reports that Real have told his agent that it would be impossible for them to sign him this summer.

It is suggested that he could stay at Sevilla until 2022 in the hope that Real’s stance changes. Or he could head to the Premier League this summer.

Defensa Central also notes that Spurs want Kounde. But Chelsea are also in the running.

Could Real Madrid stance tempt Kounde into Spurs u-turn?

Of course, a move to Real may have always seemed unlikely. It is hard to imagine many clubs spending vast sums of money in this window.

But his agent learning that Madrid deem a move in this window to be impossible may force Kounde to reevaluate his options.

There are no guarantees that clubs will be in much better financial positions next year. So Kounde may be taking a risk holding on if he is open to moving to the Premier League.

Spurs are not in the best position. But Nuno Espirito Santo has an opportunity to build something new in North London.

So with Madrid not an option, perhaps Tottenham may be tempted to see if they can convince Kounde into a u-turn on his reported decision.
